Test system capabilities at HEI have been developed to meet a wide variety of requirements based on the needs of our customers.

System Verification/Validation:

Full medical product systems are designed and fabricated at our Advanced Medical Operation in Boulder, Colorado. For example, we have designed, fabricated and validated full systems used in ultrasound equipment and MRI machines. We routinely perform system level verification and validation testing to insure that our designs meet all customer requirements. An HEI V&V engineer defines a verification and validation plan and executes it, proving that the product functions as designed.

Functional Testing:

Full functional testing is performed on all assemblies and sub-assemblies manufactured at our microelectronic facility in Victoria, Minnesota. Such testing is typically a go/no-go test to ensure that products meet mutually agreed-upon specifications which serve as acceptance criteria. Custom test fixtures and application-specific software is integrated into HEI’s standardized test platform. Final testing is designed to run in a high-volume, automated mode, and is usually performed in panel form to optimize throughput.

Bareboard Testing:

Our PWBs and ceramic substrates are tested using flying probe systems to ensure catch opens/shorts prior to product shipment or use in higher-level assembly. Additionally, our analytical lab routinely performs XRF, automated optical inspection (AOI), and calibrated wire bond pull testing.

Reliability/Qualification Testing:

HEI has in-house capability to perform the following:

  • High Temp Operating Life
  • Low Temp Storage
  • Thermal Shock
